Education Minister announces the 2021 BECE Results on national TV

“138 schools registered a 100 percent passing mark higher that 2020” Dr. Sengeh

Sierra Leone Minister of Education David Moimina Sengheh says the 2021 BECE exams school passes are much better than last year. He says 138 schools registered a 100 percent passing mark higher that 2020 where only 103 schools got that passing rate. 

Dr. Sengeh made the announcement on national television where he said 131,822 candidates entered for the 2021 BECE Exams. 65, 888 of them female from 1,449 schools. But however, he said, only 131,483 candidates attempted the exams and 339 were absent.

The best three performing students according to the education minister are: Prince Ishmail Barrie of Maranatha High School in Goderich who scored an aggregate of 6, Doris Ramatu Jah of Henretta UBC school Kenema who scored an aggregate of 7 and Blessing Elizabeth Ngegba of Modern Academy Rokel who scored an aggregate of 7 respectively. 

The education minister said the total pass rate for the exams is 78.61 percent nationwide. Out of that number, 51,232 are female while 52,391 are male.  

The minister also assured parents that the government is ready to do more to support its free quality education drive nationwide to improve access to education for all students irrespective of their backgrounds.
